Indigenous day was yesterday but I celebrate the Yaqui blood running through my veins every single day!
So...during this week, I want to celebrate the people that have inspired the profound connection I feel toward my native roots.
This photograph was taken by my talented brother @josue_foto.
I met Josue through Instagram. He photographed what was happening in #StandingRock and I came across his pictures. His photography informed me not only of the present reality but it became a vessel to travel through history with.
His artistry connected me to my ancestry and for that I am deeply grateful.
This is the beauty of social media. This is where social media becomes a magical tool of connection.
I’ve never seen Josue in the flesh, we’ve never actually physically met and that’s the beauty of this all...we haven’t had to see each other for him to move me and change me through his art.
