In the mid-1980s, Arlan Ettinger, founder and president of @guernseys_auction house in New York City, met Dorothy Lewis after following up on a rumor that she had a vintage Maserati racing car. ⠀

It turned out that Ms. Lewis had many amazing cars on her Georgia property, but had put all the vehicles she owned with her late husband in barns and shut the doors, never opening them again.⠀

Over the years, Mr. Ettinger and Ms. Lewis became great friends. On one visit to her property, she opened a barn door to reveal a 1933 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Shooting Brake with a wooden body. ⠀

"It was sensational," he said.

When Ms. Lewis died in 1998, her will stated that Mr. Ettinger would auction her cars for her. He placed the winning bid on the 1933 Rolls-Royce and has kept the car at his weekend home in Connecticut.

"The car ticks along like a clock," he said. "It’s a joy, in every single way."⠀
