"This photo is part of a series of images of a female Sumatran tigress named Bin Jai as she was cooling off in the pond on a hot summer’s day. I’ve been photographing her for a few years now at Melbourne Zoo along with some of her cubs. With the initial click of the camera she turned and gave me a little growl letting me know who was boss. I shot these images with a Nikon D700 and a 70-200mm F/2.8 lens attached to a 2 x Nikon teleconverter. This gave me an effective focal length of 400mm an F/stop of 5.6, at ISO 500 with an exposure time of 1/320th sec. The subject was photographed from 12 meters away and the images processed in photoshop CC 2017. Also attached to the camera was Nikon’s MB-D10 battery grip allowing me to increase the D700’s frame rate to 10frames per second. Whenever I photograph animals at the zoo I choose overcast days which reduce the risk of shadow casting on my subjects, making for a more pleasing and evenly lit scene." - @art_x_photography Looking to get some of your own amazing wildlife images, maybe even of Bin Jai herself? We have an upcoming class at Nikon School with Cormac Hanrahan to take you through the wildlife photography process.
