Hosteen Nez Basa made this blanket for her son, a soldier serving in Europe during #WorldWar1. Convinced that her son would die at the front, Ms. Basa, a Navajo woman from New Mexico, made this blanket to be used for his burial. When her son returned home alive, she donated the blanket to benefit the local Red Cross to raffle off, raising close to $1,500 for war relief.
This weekend we’ll be exploring #WorldWar1 history as we mark #Armistice100. Tune in tomorrow for more #StoriesOfService. If you’re in D.C. join us at the museum Sunday for a day of remembrance.
