@theseeingeye school for guide dogs does much of its training in the suburbs of New Jersey. But the final proving ground for dogs in training is in #NewYorkCity. “At the end of the training, the idea is, ‘O.K., they know the basics. Now can they handle the grind of the city?’” says trainer Brian O’Neal. In Manhattan, the dogs have to navigate the subway, traffic and countless new smells. The urban training can prepare dogs to be paired with masters in cities and for any sort of chaotic situation. “It’s a training experience that offers more than anywhere else we can take them,” said Dave Johnson, director of instruction and training at the school. “Almost anything can happen in one day in New York — it’s a culmination of sensory overload, even for humans.” @dave_sanders took this photo of Ozma, a guide dog, and her new master Val Gee.
