Lush ? - admittedly I was a little hesitant about making Machupicchu a part of my trip stops in Peru because I am not so drawn to hyper-touristy scenes; however, due to an early hiking start and arrival before the crowds, we got a foggy yet incredible perspective of a rightfully impressive destination. This urban creation of the Inca Empire stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest. The giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. Located on the eastern slopes of the Andes, it encompasses the upper Amazon basin and has a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
