Even Queen Victoria had an official "Royal Orchid Grower" and today, specimens from that original collection are held at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, near London. Kew houses the largest and most diverse botanical collection in the world, and scientists there continue to discover new species and investigate their importance to us. This exquisite orchid, Masdevallia ignea, is native to the cloud forests of Colombia, which has more orchids than any other place on earth.
