This month, Tate wishes goodbye to Visitor Assistant Abdul Hamid who is retiring after working at Tate Britain for over 36 years! We asked Mr Hamid about his time at the gallery.

?FIRST MEMORY: On my first day at Tate I was given a map, a whistle, and a service telephone as we did not have any radios then. My very first director was Sir Alan Bowness and the first exhibition was Marc Chagall. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
? FAVOURITE MOMENT: I have enjoyed every year. I would like to say that all staff are like a family to me. I felt very proud when I asked my management for a multi faith prayer room to be open for all the staff — and so it was opened!
?️ FAVOURITE EXHIBITION: The Cezanne exhibition, which I think took place in 1995. I remember that some visitors told me I had a certain resemblance with Cezanne — then I had black hair. It was a very beautiful and busy exhibition.
