Take the #LoveOurGirls Challenge this month and share your story with us at [email protected]. Exercise your activist muscle and inspire others to do the same. Love Our Girls is marking its 3-year anniversary with this month's #LOGChallenge. The first time you call yourself a feminist or speak out in the name of gender equality can be terrifying. You may wish you hadn’t said a thing. You may hear the responses that have been normalized around the dislike of feminists and the "unnecessary activism" around an issue many argue doesn’t exist. You may feel punished for speaking up. But I will say this as I did to a young woman last week who was traumatized by the backlash she felt from her community for speaking up about gender discrimination, it’s a muscle that we must train. It gets stronger the more we use it. Resistance is to be expected. How else does a muscle strengthen? Three years ago I launched Love Our Girls on Valentine's Day (my birthday) to bring awareness to the struggles of women and girls worldwide and celebrate those who are doing the hard work to make gender equality a reality. It's been estimated that it would take 217 years for true gender equality to be reached. I choose to reject that. I hope you do too. Join me in the #LOGChallenge this month. Share your Activism Muscle stories with us so we can share them with others. Learn more in this month's newsletter [link in my bio] then email us at [email protected] and let’s encourage one another through our own victories. We’ve got work to do. Let’s get to it. ~ Danai [http://bit.ly/LOGFeb2019]
