Despite several challenges facing the U.S. economy, employers are hiring in record numbers.

According to The Labor Department, job openings jumped to 7.3 million, while the number of people who quit remained unchanged at about 3.5 million. Higher quits typically point to a dynamic job market.

Industries with the biggest increases in job openings are mostly lower-paying jobs with restaurants, hotels and health care job openings increasing. Architecture and engineering job openings rose, but not dramatically. Manufacturing, retail and financial services jobs, though, took a hit.
