These works are two distinct ways that #EricNMack considers the intersection of painting and fashion in his practice. Though individual objects, the three hanging shirts were in fact made through a single process whereby the artist hand dyed a continuous stretch of cotton fabric in yellow, red, and green pigments. Once completed, Mack collaborated with a seamstress to determine the shape of the garments and then separately cut and sew them from the dyed cloth. Languages of fashion and painting also meet in the dye-on-cotton work Seat Pleasant, where an oversized plaid pattern also functions as modernist grid. Though it will continue to exist as a single piece, it also contains the possibility for its own future use for garment-making. ⁣⠀
