In reference to the quote above, that “someone” or my biggest critic can sometimes be my own fears. It’s easy to dismiss fears as if they’re all irrational but really fears are a mixed lot. We often have them from what our actual experience(s) have taught us, often painful lessons. Sometimes fears are there to make us aware of a real danger, threat or an unwise path. In that sense, fears can be helpful. Other times fears that still taught us valuable lessons can be where we get stuck, thinking that every single situation will pan out in the same way. In that sense fears can be a hindrance. I’m learning that though unpleasant at first, fears are good to be faced, mulled over thoughtfully and dealt with. For me that’s how I’m able to separate the helpful from the hindrance. And being able to voice them with trusted support who can hold space without judgment is also a wonderful gift. I often share the positive end of quotes here but sometimes I think it’s okay to say hey I’m human, I struggle, I have fears, hurts, challenges and much room for growth. Don’t we all? Everything is not always awesome, but that doesn’t mean that everything is bad either. It’s life! And it’s still beautiful in my book.
