The terror at two mosques has shattered the calm of this sleepy city of 400,000, the second largest in New Zealand, which is ranked as the world’s second safest country. Still, writes @charliecamp6ell from Christchurch, locals refused to be warped by hate. With both mosques shrouded in police tape, churches opened their doors to Muslims wanting to pray. TIME spoke with Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims, all desperate not to let this tragedy redefine who they are.
