In the wake of the terrorist attack—the suspect in custody appeared to have recently distributed a hate-filled manifesto—a survivor of the 2011 massacre on Norway’s Utøya island reflects on what the world is still getting wrong with extremism: "Most of us have refused to recognize something fundamental: that violent extremism and terrorism are not something external to our society. They are a part of our society," writes Bjørn Ihler, 27, who survived after a far-right extremist fatally shot 69 people and injured more than 100 others.
