I've been understanding that it comes from insecurities, and I used to do the same when I had adult acne. But here's the thing: 🌼 It will make you feel worse about yourself and decrease your self esteem. If you are used to looking at an image of an unrealistic version of yourself, you will hate your reflection more and more. What made me stop retouching my acne was the paranoia that when people saw me in real life they'd be horrified at my skin problem I pretended online didn't exist . 🌼 Whether you have 10 followers or a million, if you retouch your images you are passing on the problem to other people and especially young girls who follow you. They are seeing and looking up to doctored and unrealistic images of YOU and end up feeling worse about themselves. I was thinking about this after spending the day with @dove all of yesterday for their #ShowUs project. We all know the detrimental effect the unrealistic beauty standards are having on self esteem, so we need to be the change we want to see and be positive role models for other women and girls (and guys too) who follow us.
