People often associate the flood of robocalls with scammers. But did you know, that many of those calls could be businesses seeking late payments?
Companies have protection under President Donald Trump’s “industry-friendly” administration, and have ramped up their debt collection calls. Some lawyers even say debt collection harassment has literally doubled since Trump was elected.
For many, the calls are relentless. "Some people get hundreds of calls in a single month about a late payment or debt," said Alex Quilici, chief executive of YouMail, a robo-caller blocking service.
The Federal Communications Commission is in the process of deciding the scope of an act which bans companies from autodialing people's cellphones without their permission. But some worry the rule will be so thin that most businesses can operate outside of it, and that would result in a situation far worse than we know now.
