Photo by @taylorglenn | Just above Lava Falls in the Grand Canyon sits Vulcan's Anvil, a 50 foot tall volcanic 'plug' that is a remnant of lava flows some 400000 years ago. The name Vulcan comes from the Roman god who was said to be a blacksmith. The ancient flows that created this feature actually dammed the canyon. But over time the Colorado methodically wore down the material continuing its constant excavation of this magical landscape.
