Final week! 🏛️ "Monumental Journey: The Daguerrotypes of Girault de Prangey" closes next Sunday, May 12. ⠀
By 1842, only a few columns remained of the once-colossal Olympieion, although Girault’s carefully composed photograph seemingly returns it to its former grandeur. This temple dedicated to the Olympian Zeus (or the Roman Jupiter) was originally completed in a.d. 132 and was protected by 104 Corinthian columns. Excavations from the 1880s onward began to reveal a stepped base barely visible in Girault’s photograph. #MonumentalJourney ⠀
