Hurricane Harvey flooded the house with two and a half feet of water. Today it is infested with damp and partially gutted after a contractor ran off without completing the repairs they were paid to do. This is an all too common story in Houston (and in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina). Mr. Green is a senior citizen with Alzheimer’s disease and is cared for by his wife, Annie. They have lived in their home for 42 years. “I had a beautiful home,” Annie told me. “I’ve been stripped of a whole lot. It’s a bad feeling. I don’t even feel like a human being anymore. I don’t feel like a woman and I certainly don’t feel like a lady.” Bread of Life, Inc., is a disaster relief organization serving communities in Houston that are still rebuilding their homes, and lives, two years after Hurricane Harvey. Since Hurricane Harvey the organization has distributed $45,000,000 in goods, clocked 7,500 volunteering hours, and served over 37,000 families. The organization has provided the Greens with household goods and clothing. A large part of its disaster relief services include providing unmet needs to families who are struggling to replace personal and household goods. Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 storm, flooded over 150,000 homes and displaced more than 30,000 people in 2017. At its peak, a third of Houston was underwater. // @P&G(Procter & Gamble) is #DoingGoodEveryDay by helping to bring a sense of normalcy to those impacted by similar natural disasters through @tidelaundry Loads of Hope and other relief efforts.
