When completed in 1887, he declared it “my master work.” • In advance of the centennial of Renoir’s death in 2019 and the opening of "The #ImpressionistsEye," "The Great Bathers" was the subject of intensive study in order to shed new light on its unusually complex and extended process of creation, and how it reflected the importance Renoir placed upon this painting.
