Its walls stand around 100 meters at its highest point. Currently it is closed due to extremely high foot traffic over the last few years, and needs time to recover. From 2010 - 2017 tourism in Iceland has quadrupled. Visitors to the canyon reached an all time high of 282,000 in 2017.
