Many people I’ve chatted to lately didn’t know that the scientific name for a lion is Panthera leo.
Ok, there you have it. For those really wanting to challenge their grey matter and further their Panthera leo knowledge, there are two sub species. What are they? Answers in comments below.
Correct answer will be indicated by a like from me

@laurie_fullone I did some research and from what I can see there not as dangerous as we think. I actually have 2 mini weiner dogs too but they dont get them. Prob cuz of short hair . But I went to pet store and bought a flea and tick treatment for 20 did all 3 dogs just in case and have seen one of them now. But be careful when they get huge and grey they literally fall on the floor. They look like grey beans ? and ya we found tons on us as well.

@kimberlayfroeliger @lionwhisperersa so basically i do understand kevin's question but i did messed up the answer, so PANTHERA LEO and PANTHERA TIGRIS are two different species within "feline animals" and the correct answer is PANTHERA LEO MELANOCHAITA and PANTHERA LEO LEO. Sorry Kevin for messing things up ;) keep on with incredible work. Cheers from BRISTOL UK

Panthera leo senegalensis, Panthera leo massaicus, Panthera leo krugeri, Panthera leo bleyenberghi, Panthera leo hollisteri, Panthera leo europaea, Panthera leo someliensis, Panthera leo azandica. And, some others, but disappeared : Panthera leo melanochaita, Panthera leo leo... Or, almost disappeared : Panthera leo persica (less than 300 in India).

@beautifulballs_reptiles Omg! I keep finding them on my golden and on us! We've got a cottage at Pleasant Beach near Sherkston in Canada. I've heard ticks are 4X more than usual. Are we supposed to take the ticks or dogs in for testing?

I’m guessing the Asiatic lion and the African lion? I didn’t even peek...that is, if I’m not completely wrong. It was a revelation to me some time back that there still exists an Asiatic lion population. Blew me away, really.

@ikon_athenaxx be sure to subscribe to his youtube channel. he explains pretty much everything you need to know about his animals, his sanctuary and just everything about captive and wild lions in general.
