Street lamps threw pools of pale light on groups of people huddling together against the chill, or stepping briskly along sidewalks toward bus stops or taxi stands. It takes more than an hour to reach Fawad’s school, and it’s not easy for Fahiem, who works a full-time job and struggles to manage his time between family and career. Every day the two depart early in the morning and Fahiem doesn’t return home from work until late in the evening. Riding in the crowded taxi van to school, I could see a mix of weariness and determination etched across Faheim’s face. After an hour of darting through traffic, we piled out of the van and made the 15-minute march up a steep hill to Fawad’s school. . For the next few hours I photographed Fawad in his class before we went out into the school’s playground. Fahiem, who had been hanging back during class, walked out. Fawad ran over to him, smiling from ear to ear, and Fahiem scooped up his son and set him on his shoulders. I took photos as the two of them held hands, remembering something Fahiem had said the day before: “Every day when I come to pick him up at school, it’s like he hasn’t seen me in years. The excitement on his face… If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is.” #EarlyMomentsMatter . (2 of 3 #takeover posts by @briansokol) ©UNICEF/2019/Sokol」6月28日 23時05分 - unicef
