Photos by Tim Laman @Tim Laman | Lions vs. Buffalo—Part I: Advantage Lions. In one incredible day on safari in Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, we witnessed several hunts and attempted hunts between lions and buffalo. This attack began with two lionesses. The first grabbed the buffalo by the neck while the second tried to attack from behind. It seemed to be a stalemate for six minutes. Then reinforcements showed up in the form of the two males and other females from the pride. I captured the second image when the first male to arrive leaped onto the buffalo’s back. It didn’t take long after that for the buffalo to fall. Lions have to eat… Go to @Tim Laman to see Lions vs. Buffalo—Part II: Advantage Buffalo.
At times these scenes were not pleasant to watch, I will admit. Nature can be harsh. But it was real, and it was amazing to witness the cycle of life in a place that is still wild. We need places like that on Earth, and it is good for us to visit them. As Tennyson wrote, on this day, we truly witnessed “Nature red in tooth and claw.” #lions #buffalo #Tanzania #Ngorongoro #natureredintoothandclaw

I love nature. I do realise there's a cruel side to nature which is essential to keep our ecosystems balanced.
My issue is with many media people who exploit the 'kill' side of nature to boost ratings and to shock. The kill is a a part of nature but there are a plethora of other more wondrous parts of nature. I respect your opinion, please respect mine and others. There's no need to use a nasty tone. As a nature lover I embrace difference and differing opinions. I do love the majority of the nat geo posts.

Yes it's nature. Yes all animals need to eat but.... I find no pleasure in seeing an animal suffer. And that buffalo would have had a slow painful terrifying death. Plenty other photo opportunities.

I know that this picture showcases the natural survival for some animals, but it still breaks my heart to see some animals being killed for that reason?.

This is a terrible thing to show I know it’s natural but it’s heartbreaking that Buffalo wanted to live and we all just watched it die

Is this something we need to see. I know nature and there is a good chain. But I don’t want to see a living thing being killed.
