Meet Buster. He's a Montana local who loves having his picture taken. Curious and affectionate, photographing llamas is like photographing people. The more time you spend with them, the more open they become. And animals, just like people, need to accept you before you can make great images of them. One secret is never look at them directly. Animals often perceive eye contact as aggression, so if you cover one eye with your hand or your camera, they feel less threatened. Llama-trekking is one of the many activities available in remote parts of Montana. With their padded foot, cleanliness, calm nature and ability to browse on a variety of vegetation, llamas have no more impact in the high country than a deer. Follow me, @amivitale, for more photos of fascinating creatures and stunning locales. #montana #llamas #trekking
