We hope Sai-isha's dreaming of joining our blue family one day. Her mum has been going strong since 1999. 💙

@peter.ouellette Hi Peter, thanks for your explanation. Just a side note:For us it was definitely not a fortunate opportunity to ‘cash in’. It was pretty traumatic actually, hearing at the gate you can’t fly. My 9 year old was crying and the gate agent was actually super uncomfortable telling my family we couldn’t fly. We missed important appointments due to the whole delay. Also the promised €600 compensation is in reality harder to get. They give you a website where you have to fill in your information which KLM will review. So we haven’t received any compensation sofar. They did give us some breakfast vouchers though. We fly KLM a lot, and I still like the airline, but it was definitely not an easy cash-in opportunity for us. We happily would have given up the€600 in order to just board the original plane. Luckily we’re all home now and I just hope to never experience this again. Overbooking happens?

No. Using points to purchase a ticket is the best currency of all - it’s loyalty currency and nothing beats that The standard offloading procédure will target the last passengers checked in for the flight Those passengers usually get a boarding pass without an assigned seat They are asked to proceed to the boarding gate and wait to be called The gate agent will then make a PA stating that the flight is overbooked and will propose a compensation for those who accept to give up their seat. The seats turned in will be given to those waiting for a seat number So this unfortunate overbooking becomes a great opportunity to cash in for some passengers Doing it way usually takes care of ecerybody

I wonder if her Mum was ever 'permitted' to breastfeed her daughter onboard any of her flights with you should she have wished to? If she was, I do hope she covered up so not to cause offense to other passengers! @klm your choice of words on twitter with regards to your policy on this are a disgrace - since when should a mum need to be 'permitted' to feed their baby in a any form and as for causing offence by breastfeeding this says more about the person that may be offended than anyone else...the fact you've backed this up with this appaling statement is quite shocking and as 'family friendly', 'traditional' business you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Today my husband and our 2 kids were not allowed on their flight from AMS to SFO due to overbooking. We fly KLM a lot but this is so sad and painful. They received €600 per person for the inconvenience but important appointments are going to be missed and my family just wants to come home. I know overbooking happens, but it’s painful when it happens to your own family. They used KLM points when they booked flight, could that be a reason why they were not allowed to fly today?

I was astounded by the level of service and how happy and pleasant the crew on my flight from Amsterdam to Muscat in September 2015 were. At one point one of the stewards pacified a crying baby and that was honestly the first time I had seen a member of any airline crew handle a crying baby with such ease. I loved my experience on KLM and even though they don’t fly out of Colombo, I try to use them to fly out of Amsterdam to another city in Europe. 🇳🇱 ❤️

@peter.ouellette I wish KLM just made a public announcement just like you described. Many other airlines do it like this. Happy volunteer could have stepped forward instead of forcing my family. That happy volunteer would have been delighted with the cash reimbursement in exchange for their seat. Win win! Maybe KLM doesn’t do these public announcements stating overbooking for fear of causing panic, losing too much money or hectic situations at the gate?
