Read ‘GLAMORAMA 2020’, an essay by @breteastonellis in our DNA Issue.
‘This is a world where the body positivity movement says all bodies are beautiful and if you don’t find a heavy-set woman or a plus-sized model attractive you are in fact body-shaming her and need to be cancelled. If everyone is beautiful then nobody is beautiful.’ Keep reading the essay by #BretEastonEllis via link in bio. ‘Makeover Madness’ by #StevenMeisel, Vogue Italia July 2005.

My daughter went from a signed plus size model to a signed straight model. As a plus size young woman she struggled with stamina, skin, digestive and other issues; she finally got so sick she had to make changes. Her management was angry she took control of her health and all her agencies dropped her. She works incredibly hard and is once again signed nationwide and working worldwide as both a model and actress. She is an advocate for health and wellness and has helped 100’s of men and women both young and older from all over the world work toward health. Unfortunately her message of listening to your body, loving yourself and working toward a healthy lifestyle often makes her the target of the body positive community. So much so that she’s been called terrible names, threatened and been shamed for being thin. Sadly this message was even an issue when she recently entered the Sports Illustrated Swim Search, a magazine that used to celebrate health and fitness has sadly bent to culture. Ironic when SI is all about excellence in sports and athletic endeavors... The fact of the matter is, she was sick and unhealthy and is now living a healthy sickness free life. How body positive is it when we shame each other for being healthy and trying to live a better life? She maintains that she’s not “Body Positive” but “You Positive” meaning do what’s best for you, your health and your life. Our culture is headed in a very bad direction with the pervasive intolerance in so many areas of life. As her mom, I’m incredibly proud of her and inspired by how much she cares for others! @meredith_vancuyk #strongandhealthyu

It reminds me of hearing about American education style where everyone is a winner and there are not only first place, second, but 27 and 50th. “everyone deserves a trophy”. This is why people do not strive for be better, stronger, more resilient. If everyone is accepted blindly equally - there will be no geniuses, no outstanding athletes. Criticism drives forces and makes you fight mostly with yourself to be better. Yes, not everyone is beautiful, but then is that the only goal??? Is it really the goal to be accepted?? The main emphasis in our society should be teaching women CONFIDENCE. Once you accept yourself the opinions of others will not matter. Additionally every finds their OWN canon of beauty. Not everyone considers Venus beautiful and not everyone thinks Mona Lisa is a genius beauty. Idea is to be acceptable and tolerant to each other not sugar coating and making everyone “feel beautiful”. Women should be taught within - in families, in schools - to be brave, confident, resilient and powerful. Not being needy for acceptance and praise by others.

Grazie davvero.

I know a lot of women who are full figured and they’re beautiful ❤️ you don’t need to be a certain size to be so. I can agree we are not all drop dead gorgeous but like a lot of other people said (me being a regular person) there’s still a lot of people who treasure substance and the good in people as beautiful✨. To label beauty as one thing or one image is impossible. All of the world hold so much beauty in different forms like people, animals, nature, architecture, music, culture, etc. I think we can agree that everyone has different opinions, tastes and perspectives and that’s fine because when we meet someone who loves our own beauty it’s special and means something. But we can’t be closed off to different views socially (not personally) otherwise we become stagnant, boring, and not the best version of ourselves. ?

Everyone is beautiful, we are all unique in our physical appearance , but it is our inner being that is an extension of source that sees love and perfection in all of us. There is no right look or how we are to fit in to what someone else perceives, it's all about how we feel about us and nothing else matters. In the words of Terrel Owens, and I think he had it right when he said; "I love me some me", right on T. O.
