Students in New Hampshire won't have to worry about not having access to pads and tampons anymore, thanks to new state legislation. Free pads and tampons will now be required in all gender-neutral and girl's bathrooms in public middle and high schools in the state. The law is scheduled to go into effect immediately, after the governor signed the bill on Wednesday. "Providing menstrual hygiene products in public school restrooms is long overdue," said state Sen. Martha Hennessey, the prime sponsor of the bill. "Cost and stigma can cause a lack of access to these products for New Hampshire students, which negatively impacts their productivity and attendance and makes it harder to focus on classes." I feel for girls on this one. Especially girls with serious endometriosis, periods that are not only painful but severely heavy. I can relate with this personally. Not all people have the luxury of light periods. Some of us struggle with extreme periods. While I agree that parents should provide, have we forgotten that not all these kids may have supportive parents: could be raised by males who do not understand, could be in foster care. Bottom line not everyone has the luxury to have enough money to eat well, and girls are burdening their families for pads that can be quite pricey if you have a very heavy period. Should we go back to the rag method? For a child to be shamed for something beyond their control is pitiful.

Some of these negative comments are so disappointing, but I shouldn’t be surprised. We live in a cruel, selfish world that lacks empathy. No one is asking any taxpayer to pay for a young woman’s monthly hygiene/personals. This is making personal items available to those who DO NOT have access or may have forgotten. STOP it with all of you whining and complaining

OMG. that’s personal issue, not public.....why would you use your tax for that? Any parents of the boys are happy? It doesn’t make sense to me.... I just don’t get American way of solving things. Is that a part of training people to be “dependent” & “irresponsible”? ....don’t we have enough of this type of people already......gosh!?!?!?!!

If restrooms have free toilet paper they should have free menstrual supplies. If you can afford to pay for people to poop, you can afford to pay for women who bleed uncontrollably and sometime unexpectedly.

Is this included in the school budget, I’m guessing the nurse (?), or is it the responsibility of the nurse (?) to purchase out of their own wallet? What is the annual $ per campus?
