Why Pride month? Because the fight for #LGBTQ equality is every damned day, the whole world over. #LGBTQSolidarity #Resist @kph_official

So in Poland, popular public figures (journalists, actors, musicians etc) still stage fake relationships with the opposite sex, so that people will think they are straight. Even some of the most powerful ones. And I'm not talking about keeping their privacy and not coming out in public, everyone has the right to that, but they actually PRETEND they are NOT gay and have the whole fake relationships (with photo sessions and couple interviews in the magazines). It's insane and tells you a lot about mentality in Poland that this is STILL a norm there. Do I understand that these people are scared of the scrutiny? I empathise with the newcomers who feel forced to play this game in order to have a career, but the top players who already have the power and the money keep at it simply because heterosexuality sells better. I keep thinking about LGBTQ people in small towns and villages, who have no representation in the media in Poland. And while it should be the other way round, it's the media creating society's mentality. Also, people still get severly beaten up in Poland for looking differently (trans or non-white, doesn't matter, you're different so you deserve a beating), it's a very aggressive country and you can't excuse that with communism anymore, it's 2019.

Not that I think that's OK. But maybe it's worth saying that it's 30 local governments out of about 2500. And that the mayor of Warsaw (which has an incomperably higher population than all those "lgbt free" ones combined) signed a declaration in support of lgbt rights that provides support for those affected by discrimination. We do have a problem with homophobia in Poland but news like that is blown way out of proportion and does not help solve anything.

This makes me very sad. I went to Poland about 10 years ago and it was one of my favorite countries. My wife has never been and we talked about another trip there but in light of this we feel we should go elsewhere.
