They are agile swimmers with slightly webbed paws. Their iconic stripes are like fingerprints—every tiger has an individual stripe pattern. Scientists can use their stripe patterns to identify individual tigers in the wild. There are six subspecies in the wild, but three subspecies have gone extinct. Of those six subspecies, there are only about 3,200 individual tigers living across Asia. Their biggest threats are poaching and habitat loss. In addition to working with partners in Asia to protect their remaining habitats using the latest technology that helps identify hot spots of poaching or illegal activity, the Zoo is home to Amur and Sumatran tigers. We work with the Species Survival Plans for both species to create insurance populations to prevent them from going extinct forever. You can help tigers by purchasing products made with sustainable palm oil or products that are made without palm oil. #WeSaveSpecies」7月30日 5時49分 - smithsonianzoo
