It's been 50 years since 400,000 people gathered in the fields near Bethel, New York for the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, also known as the “Aquarian Exposition.” From Aug. 15 through 18, artists and attendees took part in the largest and most ambitious of the 1960s countercultural music festivals, but Woodstock's influence continued to grow in the weeks and years that followed.
At the festival, organizers didn't sell t-shirts, but vendors quickly filled the void by selling posters, clothing and other souvenirs.
The idea of Woodstock then spread through news stories and a documentary film. Young Americans expressed the values they associated with it by buying records, concert tickets, clothes and posters—like one you may see on a dorm room wall. This early poster is in our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館. #SmithsonianMusic

People LOVE romanticising history. This is just Cochella but in 1969, a bunch of people doing drugs, fucking and leaving trash and shit behind. People actually died at Woodstock. And as far as "peace and love", we were in one of the bloodiest wars during this time (vietnam), our Presidents who were trying to save the world were getting assassinated by the corrupt fucks in charge, and racism was worst than it is now😂😂

Whoever is romanticizing Woodstock must not have been there. Many lives were ruined by a stupid childish philosophy coined by immature teenagers who supposed that indifference and drugs would solve the world's problems. Those if us who lived through it but escaped its effects are lucky.
