One of the most common quilts made in Gee’s Bend is the housetop variation. Here, Louisiana Bendolph experiments with color and form in her unique interpretation. After the success of the traveling exhibition of Gee’s Bend quilts starting in 2002, Bendolph was re-inspired to start quiltmaking again, resulting in this incredible textile work. See this quilt and other housetop variations in “Souls Grown Deep: Artists of the African American South” in the Perelman Building through Sept 2.
