I met her as she stepped off the court, tears welling up in her eyes. And no amount of mom hugs were going to hold back the wave of emotions that had built up over the previous hour and a half. She was soaked from head to toe. She left everything she had on that court and her head hung heavy with disappointment. Meanwhile, Keith and I were coming unglued with pride. She had just gone the distance with an opponent like she’s never played. She was upset with the loss while we were overcome with the growth we watched unfold before our eyes. It was, without a doubt, the best she’s ever played. It took a solid hour (plus an order of Chipotle tacos) to convince her that the greatest growth only comes from the greatest challenges. And that we’d rather watch her lose everyday, like she did today, than watch her walk away with an easy win. I think it sunk in, but I’m guessing this isn’t the last time we’ll have this chat either. Parenting, man 🥺
