Every two years, @smithsoniannpg awards the “Portrait of a Nation Prize” for achievements in the worlds of science, performing arts, business, fashion and media. The museum has recently acquired portraits of this year's honorees, including three commissioned artworks:
🏆Lin-Manuel Miranda, award-winning composer, lyricist, actor and creator of the Broadway production Hamilton: An American Musical, by Mark Seliger
🏆Frances Arnold, scientist, engineer and Nobel Laureate, by Katy Grannan
🏆Jeffrey P. Bezos, founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, owner of the Washington Post, tech entrepreneur and philanthropist, by Robert McCurdy
🏆Indra Nooyi, business executive and named by Forbes as one of world’s 100 most powerful women, by Jon R. Friedman
🏆Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of Vogue, U.S. Artistic Director and Global Content Advisor of Condé Nast, by Annie Leibovitz
🏆Earth, Wind & Fire (Maurice White [posthumously], Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson), award-winning American band, by Bruce W. Talamon
Tonight the museum will honor the group at the American Portrait Gala, which was established in 2015 to strengthen the museum’s endowment for exhibitions and to focus attention on the museum’s work with living sitters and contemporary artists.
You can see all of their portraits through Aug. 30, 2020 in the museum's "Recent Acquisitions" exhibition. #myNPG
