During my last evening in Kenya, we spotted a pride of lions relaxing on a kopje (big rock formation). The cubs were quite restless as they continuously played with one another while annoying the resting and very patient lionesses. Within an hour of sunset, a group of young males lying in the grass got the glimpse of a herd of cape buffalo and the hunt was on. One by one the adult lions left, leaving the cubs in the safety of the bushes. In just a matter of minutes, the pride had taken down 2 buffalo and the family feast began as dusk turned into twilight. While not a great night for the buffalo herd, all the lion cubs certainly went to bed happy and full, as did the rest of the family.
