Not that he cares for these human snacks—he has to stay in shape and rather prefers the capelin caviar (his favorite!) that my cousin Odette feeds him. Odette is a veterinarian on the island of Curaçao, and she found Bob after he flew against a hotel window three years ago. She would prefer to see the bird in his natural environment, but realizes that he would never be able to survive out there due to a foot injury. However, the idea that the bird is playing an important role in flamingo conservation and helps teach children in the Caribbean about conservation on the island comforts her. And in the meantime Bob seems to enjoy his new lifestyle and being pampered.
