Tonight, we welcome Cree artist @kentmonkman and his shape-shifting, time-traveling alter ego Miss Chief Eagle Testickle for a special evening at #TheMet, exploring his new installation “mistikôsiwak (Wooden Boat People),” now on view in The Great Hall. ⁣
⁣
Miss Chief Eagle Testickle—whose name plays on the words “mischief” and “egotistical,” and is in part an embodiment of the Indigenous Two Spirit tradition, which embraced a third gender and nonbinary sexuality—appears in the two paintings on view, reversing the colonial gaze to challenge traditional notions of history and Indigenous peoples. ⁣
