Sri Lanka is a densely populated, seemingly idyllic island in the Indian Ocean finally emerging from decades of a brutal civil war. While struggles remain, it is blessed with beautiful white beaches, wildlife, and culture. I had the privilege of working in Sri Lanka for National Geographic as we looked at the memory of the 26-year civil war, which ended in 2009. I hope and believe that lasting peace will soon be realized there.
