Photo by @クリス・バーカード | Southern Alps, South Island, New Zealand. The mountain range strings from north to south along a Pacific plate boundary, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Over the last 45 million years, the collision has uplifted 20 kilometers of rock to form the Alps. The uplift has been the most rapid during the last five million years, and the mountains continue to be raised today by tectonic pressure, causing earthquakes on the Alpine Fault. It’s places like this that keep me wondering if I will see great changes in the landscape in my lifetime.
