In the men's field at Bouldering Nationals, it's been the climber with the least mistakes on top of the podium. In 2017, 1st and 2nd had 4 tops in finals. 2018 saw the men's podium with 4 tops. And in 2019, 4 out of 6 finalists topped the finals round, with a podium separated by 4 falls. When multiple finalists send all the finals boulders, to me it means that those climbers weren't given the chance to display their full ability. I want to ask the USAC routesetters working this weekend to give more consideration to the amount of progress US climbers have made in the past few years. Nationals is the only chance for US athletes to qualify to compete on the world stage, where the difficulty and complexity of the boulders are much higher.
