This week, I worked with kids and talked to them about being kind. I talked about the importance of being a part of a team, and how that meant we watched out for each other, and that we stood up for each other. We talked about knowing who your trusted adult was, and how to start a conversation with them. We are teaching them these skills hoping that one day they can apply them to preventing a lot of uncomfortable situations, including sexual assault. Hopefully none of them will have to use them, but that’s what these skills are trying to prepare them for. Do not tell the world that there isn’t a problem with the culture of this sport, when I am out here working for you to change the culture of the sport. Do not allow the adults in this world to continue thinking there’s not a problem and that they don’t have to change because you say it isn’t so. I am so frustrated with the glacial pace this sport constantly takes when faced with a challenge, and at this point all I can say is look in the mirror and get started on that change you promised me. #metoo
