Much has been said about the internet’s knack for making us feel lonelier, as though we’re all screaming into the void but no one’s listening. It’s a feeling that author and artist Jonny Sun understands well, and even embraces. In his TED Talk, aided by his illustrated semi-avatar (an alien named Jomny) Sun explains how being open online about his sadness and fear struck a nerve on social media, sparking conversations — and communities — and making everyone feel less alone. “I feel silly and stupid sometimes for valuing these small moments of human connection in times like these. But I've always operated under this idea that little moments of humanness are not superfluous,” he says. “They are these tiny, temporary sanctuaries that show us that we are not as alone as we think we are.” Watch Sun’s full TED Talk at the link in our bio.
