Photo by Matthew Borowick @mborowick | Standing just under an astounding 7,000 feet (2,100 meters), the peak of Hvannadalshnúkur sticks out like a razor-sharp point. Hvannadalshnúkur is the highest point on Iceland and sits on Öræfajökull, an ice-covered volcano in southern Iceland. This peak, like many others, is open to climbers and trekkers alike, but it should only be attempted with the guidance of professionals, as it can be extremely dangerous, and the weather in Iceland can change in an instant—especially on the top of a glacier.
