“This solo is sort of like an atomic top,” said the @nycballet principal @dpulbricht of this moment in “Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes,” an energizing, mostly male ballet by the choreographer @justin_peck. It requires just the right balance of force and musical timing, Daniel said, for it to be “a top that continues to go until it resolves itself with that catch at the very end.” We don’t see Daniel leap and fall backward into the arms of his comrades as he would onstage, but his momentum is apparent: “Each landing becomes a takeoff for the next move, so a domino effect ends up happening,” he said. All the while he fights for clarity, which is a change from when he first performed the solo in 2015. “I would go for it and go for it, and I now can use a vehicle like this to just pump the brake a little bit,” Daniel told the #nytimes dance critic @giadk. “That creates something more exciting.
