For our April 2020 issue, ELLE Decor Contributor @judiroaman explores the evolution of the @beittrad guesthouse in the mountains of Lebanon. The chic two-acre property originally began as the family home of Roaman's close friend, Sarah Trad, a Beirut psychologist. Trad enjoyed many summers at the home, which her dad purchased in 1984. Trad stopped visiting the property when her parents passed away, but after much thought, she made the decision to convert it into a guest home that could also serve as her personal retreat. With the help of a Lebanese team—architect @fadlodagher and designer @mariaousseimi1—she took on a respectful restoration. “It’s a house that likes guests,” she notes. “That’s how it is most happy.” In the living room of the main house, the custom sofas in a @rubelli_group fabric are topped with pillows covered in vintage African textiles, and the Syrian inlaid mother-of-pearl armchair, Turkish chandelier, and table and chairs by Eero Saarinen for @knollinc are all vintage. A papier-mâché hippo from a Paris flea market hangs over a vintage photograph of a masked ball. The vintage prints depicting classical armor (left) are from @annmorrisnewyork.
