Minnijean Brown Trickey—a member of the Little Rock Nine—designed this dress that she wore for her 1959 high school graduation.
At age 15, Trickey was one of the nine African American students who desegregated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
They were continually harassed by white students, which was ignored by the school administration, and any response from the Little Rock Nine students was punished. Trickey was suspended, then expelled.
She moved to New York City and graduated from New Lincoln School there. Her dress is now in our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館's collection.
