It's dangerous to go alone! Take this. 🗡
Okay, it's no wooden sword gifted to you by an old man in a cave, but this dagger is a beautiful example of Mughal jade-working, one of the most demanding forms of sculptural expression in northern India from the 17th to the mid-19th century. An extremely tough stone, jade can only be shaped through abrasion and polishing rather than carving.
Made for the emperor himself, this dagger is an ornate ceremonial weapon with inlaid gold complementing the steel blade and jade hilt. The hilt is fashioned into a spirited horse's head with delicate ears, high cheekbones, and detailed teeth, while the gentle rippling in the neck would have made the dagger easier to hold.
