Photo by @simonnorfolkstudio I From a selection of work I call Lost Capital, from a London under lockdown: After the Great Fire of 1666, Sir Christopher Wren proposed a new city layout worthy of a grand colonial power, featuring piazzas and broad, radiating boulevards. The plan was never realized—there was too much vested property interest. So the City of London to this day retains much of its medieval street layout, and many of its ancient street names. Listed they read like a kind of poetry:
Turnagain Lane, Puddle Dock, Old Jewry, and New Change. Hanging Sword Alley, Undershaft, Muscovy Street, and Honey Lane. Amen Corner, Three Nun Court. Eastcheap, Cornhill, Poultry.
