In the first picture is a man we have all been taught to admire, a man that we have all called one of the founding fathers of The United States of America. If you can zoom in on the first picture in the background those are supposed to be bricks. There are 609 bricks, and each of those bricks represents a name of a person on it. These people were turned into slaves that Thomas Jefferson owned. Wait a minute! You mean to tell me that the man that wrote the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE owned slaves? Still think he was a good man? Why did my teachers in school not tell me this? Were they trying to hide this fact? What else were they hiding from us about this country? He, along with many men like him created laws and wrote codes in America that took away the very idea that all men were created equal. He had the nerve to write, “ That All Men Are Created Equal”, yet owned people and treated them as 3/5ths of a person! I don’t know where you come from but that is the exact definition of hypocrisy! I want you to all know this because there are other hypocrisies that exist in our country but our classrooms refused to teach us because they had to admit the mistreatments and wrong doings that were done on behalf of black people in America. It is not too late though, as we can continue to educate ourselves And learn about what really happened in our history. We need to stop memorializing traitors to this country and those men that committed unspeakable crimes against black folks and get rid of statues, monuments, rename schools, military installations and street names that glorified these unjust men. #youcantchangehistory #nowyouknow #educate #fundourschools @nmaahc #blackcodes
