🐇 12 hares play in the long grass on the Japanese folding screen 🐇

It’s over three metres wide, and was made in the 17th or 18th century. During this time rabbits or hares were much more commonly depicted as small objects like netsuke – they’re one of the 12 animals of the zodiac, so these objects might relate either to the current year they were made or the birth year of the owner.
